Conference Prelude

Tuesday, April 3, 2018 - 3:30pm

Grand Ballroom

With a focus on positive approaches to academic leadership, this highly interactive opening session sets the theme for the entire conference and helps prepare you to make the most of the next three days. Bring plenty of business cards to the Conference Prelude since this session will help you become acquainted with others in attendance and provide you with a networking opportunity to help expand your leadership resources. The Prelude will also give you a chance to explore the role that perspective and language can play in shaping the environment in which academic leaders operate. Drawing from concepts introduced in his book, Positive Academic Leadership: How to Stop Putting Out Fires and Start Making a Difference, Jeff Buller will help participants understand why the distinctive organizational culture of higher education requires a different approach to leadership than commonly described in works on leadership and management in the corporate world.

Conference Summit

Friday, April 6, 2018 - 9:00am

Grand Ballroom

After a rich conference experience, the Summit offers an opportunity for participants to draw conclusions from the sessions they’ve attended and develop a plan for moving forward. In this highly interactive concluding workshop, participants will have an opportunity to share with one another the most important insights the have gained over the last several days and to identify common themes that appeared in the presentations they attended. You can think of the Conference Summit as something of an exclamation point to the entire program. It should leave you feeling energized, inspired, and ready to make the best possible transition from the conference to the specific challenges and opportunities you face in your job. By attending the Conference Summit, you will leave Denver, not merely with a toolkit filed with good ideas, but also with an expanded framework with which to apply those ideas when you return to your home campus.
